The long-term rehabilitation of families affected by the devastating 2024 Wayanad landslides remains an important humanitarian and development challenge. While immediate relief and temporary shelter were provided after the disaster, some survivors continue to face difficulties in securing permanent homes and rebuilding their lives.
Rehabilitation involves more than providing houses. Families also need access to roads, electricity, drinking water, healthcare, schools, livelihood opportunities and other essential services in their new locations. Ensuring that relocated communities can rebuild their livelihoods and regain economic stability remains a key concern.
The continuing rehabilitation process has therefore kept safe resettlement, permanent housing and livelihood restoration high on Wayanad’s development agenda during 2026.
