Following the deadly landslide at the Kalladi Phase III tunnel construction site in Wayanad, the Kerala government announced financial assistance for the families of those who lost their lives and support for people injured in the disaster.
The government announced ₹5 lakh in ex-gratia assistance for the family of each deceased victim through the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. Injured persons were also made eligible for medical assistance of up to ₹2 lakh, depending on the nature and severity of their injuries.
The assistance was intended to provide immediate financial relief to affected families and help injured workers meet treatment-related expenses. The measures followed directions from the Kerala High Court to ensure prompt compensation and continued medical support for those affected.
The government also constituted an expert committee to investigate the cause of the landslide and examine safety and other circumstances connected with the tunnel project. Construction activities at the affected site were halted pending the investigation.
The relief measures were part of the government’s immediate response to the tragedy, while authorities continued rescue, investigation, and safety-assessment efforts at the Kalladi tunnel site.
