The 2026 Assembly election generated intense political activity across Wayanad, with campaigns, public meetings, roadshows and voter outreach taking place throughout the district’s three Assembly constituencies—Kalpetta, Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery.
Candidates representing the LDF, UDF, NDA and independent groups contested the seats, making the election a competitive political contest. Campaigns focused strongly on issues affecting the everyday lives and livelihoods of people across the hill district.
Agriculture and farmer welfare remained important campaign themes, with discussions centred on crop prices, plantation livelihoods, farming support and access to agricultural markets. Tribal development was another major concern, particularly issues involving education, healthcare, employment, housing and access to welfare schemes.
Environmental protection also received considerable attention because of Wayanad’s ecologically sensitive landscape. Candidates and political groups discussed forest conservation, sustainable development, human-wildlife conflict and protection of natural resources.
The impact of previous landslides also shaped the campaign, with disaster rehabilitation, compensation, safer settlements, infrastructure and disaster preparedness becoming important subjects among voters.
The election campaign reflected the district’s diverse priorities, bringing together questions of agricultural development, tribal welfare, environmental protection and disaster resilience as major issues in Wayanad’s political landscape.
